Repercussions scratches the surface of cultural reconnection and a return to mana (spiritual lifeforce). Beginning to unpack the reverberations of severed patrilineal relationships, Nguyễn-Hunt seeks recluse with their tinamatua (Nana/grandmother) through a telephone conversation. Speaking for the first time in over a decade, tinamatua shares cultural knowledge and tenderly coddles the remaining guilt and regret she senses from across the ocean. Feeling foreign and outside looking in on their own culture, Nguyễn-Hunt is rebuilding what was once lost. In a parallel manner, seeking cultural roots is returning to tradition, but also radically futuristic in a world which has tried time and time again to dilute and milk out Pacifica peoples. This conversation and the many others that will follow is an active resistance against assimilation and erasure.
